Thanks Dave. It's a 3800 in a 91 Park Avenue. The cam interrupter is the name the dealer gave me for the small magnet that fits in a recessed hole in the cam gear. It passes by the sensor. I read some of the postings from earlier questions about this problem but I don't have access to a lot of diagnostic equipment so its a bit tough to figure out the problem. As close as I am able to determine, the problem appears to be either with a tach signal (or lack of) which I believe sets the 41 code or the computer itself. As I said in my earlier post, I have changed the sensor and the magnet and have not solved the problem. One more question. If I cannot trace the problem, can the car be driven as is (with the check engine light on) without the possiblity of being stranded somewhere? The car starts and runs well. If the light wasn't on, I wouldn't know I had a problem. Thanks for your time.
