When ever we are testing ground circuits, I like to remember that we are looking at potential ground. If we think of Kirkhoffs law we realize that all voltage drops will be divided even throughout the resistance of a circuit, ending with 0 volts after the last resistance in the circuit to ground. SO..if you have resistance in the ground circuit, any load that the circuit is carring...ie injector firings..ignition coil will show in the circuit before the resisance to ground. The higher the voltage potential, the higher the spikes. All this of course, I am sure you new. But let us add some more to the soup. When you expand the time of your scope it does on some ground circuits, depending on the voltage potential look like a shark fin. Could this be a capacitance effect due to the potential of high voltage and the resistance to ground?
