Hi Harvey, it sounds like your signal is aliasing, giving you a false representation of the signal. There is a great article that has been written on this by Tom Roberts and you can read it on his website at http://tar.home.sprynet.com/ . Just go to the Scope Pitfalls section. As to why the other waveform you saw didn't have any dropouts, it could have been taken at a different rpm. The Fluke 98 does sample at different rates on different time bases so this does explain why it doesn't happen at a faster time base. Hope this helps. - Jamie
