Hi Jamie, good explanation of system stadegy. You are correct, but I believe you have a 3800 engine. The cam sensor can cause intermittent problems on these vehicles if the magnet is cracked or split or if the hall has intermittent glitches. If within a 360 degree space the hall would pull down to ground again the syncing of the injector would start over causing an interupt in fuel injector sequence. To know if this is happening simply disconnect the cam sensor. If the vehicle now starts and runs properly the peoblem is the cam circuit. To verify this on a lab scope, use dual trace for the 3 times signal from module to PCM and the number 1 injector. Trigger off of the 3 times signal. Only 1 occurence of the injector should be seen for every six signals seen. The 3 times signal from the module ( reference signal ) is actuallly the 18 times signal which has been converted by the clock signal in the module. Bottom line...by disconnecting the Cam signal the vehicle should start up fine and run fine. If it does not you have another problem.
